As the creators of our first coloring book originally made from an economics class business plan project, we never imagined the amount of support and publicity the COVID Coloring Book would get starting June 3, 2020. It was made to explain the coronavirus of 2020 to young kids to give them a better grasp on the problem, and how to prevent themselves from getting sick. The multiple activity pages as well as coloring and education-filled ones are a great way to help them understand, along with a mask in the back of the book. It has been in the Press Telegram, Long Beach Post Hi-Lo, on KNX 1070 News Radio,  in The Washington Post, on ABC7, and on CBS2/KCAL9, thanks to our amazing friends, family, and teachers.

This is our newest book! Our second in a series will be “Stand Up for Your-shell-ves”. Racism and other kinds of discrimination are huge issues, especially right now, and we know younger kids may not understand the topics very easily. We have used simpler ideas to explain the problems through a child’s perspective with a story and more information about discrimination in the past. With the help of one of our characters, Sam the Snail, we tell a story with a lesson that leads up to how you can prevent events like the ones that have recently happened. Showing respect for others is a phrase greatly repeated to little kids, but our book isn’t only focused on that. It’s the understanding of the topics, racism and other forms of discrimination, that will help them know why they need to be respectful. We also would like to thank our teachers, Mr. Montooth and Ms. Schol, as well as Kandise Le Blanc and our parents for your huge amount of of help with writing the book and giving us amazing ideas.

Hi, our names are Lauryn Hong, Ella Matlock, Sofia Migliazza, and Erin Rogers. As PACE students at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, we have created something (well, now a few things)  in order to help out the people around us during difficult times. We hope they explain the topics well with kid-friendly vocabulary and characters.

The books are coloring books, ways to keep kids entertained, while providing guidance on how to stay healthy, and happy. We are giving the option to donate 40% of your purchase to the organization of your choice, but each book is focused on a different one. The main goals of this project are to educate young kids on the extreme issues of today and give back to our community.

Through the wise words of Al E. Gator, Sam the Snail, and Wally the Narwhal, we hope to help kids understand what’s happening around them right now. Thank you for all your support!
